Nothing But Work, Work, Work

In my last post for 2005, I basically melted down calling attention to the fact that left leaning pundits were bemoaning the Bu$hCo/Neocon hijacking of our country. But this year, I thought that I'd delay my first post until I had something positive to say. Well...so much for that.

Frankly, even with Democrats in control of the House and Senate all I see ahead of us is work, work, work. When Bush's Republican "yes men" controlled Congress, we could chant, rant, wail, and rail about all the horrible abuses, the laws, the lies, the deceit. But we were absolved of doing more because our representative's efforts accounted for didly. Now we've got a scant 730 days (much less if you account for congressional recesses) to undo the damage of Bu$hCo's 6 year assault on the Constitution, and it doesn't look like we're going to get much help from the Democratic leadership.

And what about the Great Confabulator, Bush? Well true to form, he's locking himself into a course of action that will put him squarely at odds with 75% of Americans. He continues to violate the constitutional separation of powers by making de facto law with illegal signing statements. Did you know that the executive has now granted itself the power to open and read your snail mail, anytime, for almost any reason, without a warrant? (Check out the second to last paragraph.)

Yes sir! Being powerless sucks, but having your party back in power without the cojones to affect real change is going to suck a whole lot more. We can't let that happen. Time to roll up our sleeves and kick some Democratic ass!

It's only for two years, enough time for Speaker Moonbeam to hang her head across the aisle and get Iraq hung around it.

It can always be worse.
When Bush rolls out his mad plan to send even MORE troops to Iraq, we'll know where each and every Dem stands.
The next thing Bushco will want is to have a hidden mic in all pillows so they can pick up pillow talk.
Anyone who thought that our job was done back in November has been walking around with blinders on for 6 years, or more.

Winning back control of Congress was just a beginning - an opening salvo, if you will. The battle has not yet been truly engaged, and this is not the time to stop fighting and rest on our rather slim laurels.
Impotant ranting or working for change??? I always loved a good rant, but I would rather actually accomplish something positive.
TFWY, I hope that Pelosi is smarter than that. She's made some hasty moves in the last two months, but one thing that I've learned over the years out here on the Left Coast is that Pelosi is a fast learner.

Betty, I know, and I know it's coming. I'm hoping that the Dems unite against it--place them in stark contrast to the Deciderer.

Peacechick, man would that be boring for NSA or what? "Honey, what do you want for dinner tomorrow night?"

No truer words, Sewmouse.

Knighterrant, so much to do though. It's almost hard to know where to begin, and I think that building veto-proof majorities is going to be the toughest aspect of the next two years.
Now the real work begins--we have to stop kicking Republican asses and start kicking Democrat asses.

I disagree. If anything, it's time to start cutting them some slack.
Whether its Tom who's right, or you Kvatch...(I'm leaning froggy), this is the fundemental differance between Democrats and Republican (although there is less and less as time slips by) most Democrats believe in the right of the citizen to petition the Government, instead of standing around with their hands in their pockets saying, "we don't listen to polls." Get on the phone, get on the street corner, start marching!
My sleeves are rolled up, I have on my heavy duty sneakers on and I'm ready to rock and roll.
Oh, I am SO linking this post!!
DBK, PoP...I'm preparing Kommandos as we speak to start spreading the message of ending the war.

Tom, care to elaborate on why? I'm pretty sure I've got a good idea of your thinking but would like your words nonetheless.

Fred, I agree with your sentiments but, in practice, am not so sure that the Dems are that much better than the 'thuglicans. I think that's why we need to be agitating.

Pam...I would be honored!
Somebody (Granny? Worried American?) said recently that we have to work to make sure our Democrats aren't just Republicans in disguise. I liked that. I agree with you, Kvatch.

Kvatch, I've got a whole mess of reasons that I'm stuggling to get into some kind of coherent form...and it may wind up as a blog post in its own right. One way or another, I'll answer when I can.
Cut them slack? Okay. Right after the Impeachment hearings have wrapped up, and Pelosi {eeesh...} is President.

Until then, they've a constitutional obligation to throw this freakin' cowboy off his high (make that completely stoned!) horse and lock his arse up. Delivery to The Hague for amends for previous iterations of Congress's failure to do such duty is optional.

If Sadaam was hanged for {ahem} 168 dead Iraqi men and boys, what sort of punishment does that require the Chimperor be served? For October alone?!

(quasi-legal signing statements... what the ..???)

Still, I'd dig reading that explanation. Don't mean to be a prick on another's blog, but ??? What, other than cutting off funding for the war, could possibly supercede actual Justice in order to move our Executive branch back towards Constitutional legitimacy?
the song line playing in my head as i cast my ballot last elecetion? "meet the new boss, same as the old boss..." i'm terrified it will be more of the same. terrified. rolling up sleeves as we speak.
remember the scene in Crocodile Dundee where he reaches down & grabs some society doyenne's crotch area to verify if there are any gonads present? That's the way I want the oath of office administered to incoming dems. Not that worthless hand-on-the-bible oath. Un-uh, I want to know going in who's got the stuff. ~~ D.K.
