When You Can't Make The News, Fake The News

The Raw Story has a link to a Center for Media and Democracy report listing 77 television stations that "fake the news" by showing pre-prepared video news releases (VNRs) without warning their audiences. And just what are VNRs? Well usually they're newsy looking "documentlets" produced by PR firms or corporations. CMD even includes a cool map tracking the offending stations. Seems that fake news is more popular in the South and East. Wonder why?

And I thought that only Blognonymous faked the news. Oh well...At least when I do it, I have the good sense to label it. As with these (shameless whoring follows, proceed at your own risk):

The Department of Homeland Faith
Biological Warfare
NSA Bakes Cookies
Disgusted With Politics, The North Magnetic Pole Emigrates

I try to fake the news as much as I can. Real news is too depressing.
Or you can just turn on FOX news and rest assured you are hearing bullshit.
Reporting lies, or just creating your own..lies are lies, after all.

Damn. I was hoping for a pass on this since at least I put creative effort into my own lies. :-) Oh well...

But as I understand it, these VNRs are mostly propoganda made to look like news. So the stations that air them are both lying and lazy! Don't even put in the effort. What a bunch-o-tools.
Hey, Kvatch,

if you didn't see it or hear it democracy now did the whole program on this. www.democracynow.org.

And they had samples!

Mike, thanks for the link. I'll take a look right now.
This is what the Lautenberg-Kerry Truth in Broadcasting Act was meant for.
Here's a few links, this one from Lautenberg's site, and this one and this one from PR Watch.
