Texans Make Bad Presidents - Here's Why

I've often said that Texas is the last state we should use as a presidential proving ground. Why? Well it's got a weak governorship and a constitution with over 300 amendments, making the state practically ungovernable.

But The Local Crank said it far better than I ever could:
The governor of Texas is, for all intents and purposes, the mere hood ornament on the great cadillac of state government.
Well put!

Hahahah that is really funny. Then it is really sad all at once.
At last, immortality!
why is it that when old people cars (cadillacs) get put out to pasture, they end up as minority-owned vehicles?
Cookie, well in Texas, they get put out to pasture...literally.
Actually, I should probably change that quote; as crappy, disorganized, simultaneously underfunded (the San Jacinto Monument has been closed for years due to lack of maintenance) and bloated (we have paved every cow path in the state), and totally captive to special interests our state government is, a more accurate quote would be, "the dilapidated '85 Yugo of state government."
Personally, I like it just the way it is...and let's face it, Texas state government has been a dilapidated Yugo for much longer than there have been Yugo's. I lived in TX for 20 years, and never remember anything but bad schools, bad roads, inequitable distribution of tax dollars (what few tax dollars there where), dysfunctional public institutions manned by dysfunctional individuals.

But it still amuses me to recall the myth of the horn-bedecked Caddy flying down US 90, trailing beer cans and BBQ.

Texas is about two tanks rolling down Congress Avenue away from being a Third World Country.

Wait, that's a myth? Hang on, I need to go get something off my truck...
