Kvatch Kvetches - Bush Embodies Joseph McCarthy's Spirit

More stuff that's been languishing in my post queue (maybe I should make this some kind of feature?):

Who Do the Democrats Remind You Of?
Do you remember that team that always used to play the Harlem Globetrotters? I think they have a different name now, but when I was a kid they were called the Washington Generals. They always played a decent game but without flair, and they always lost. The Democratic Party of Pelosi and Reid are the Washington Generals of Politics. Need proof? Just read the DNC's Real Security agenda.

What Will Constitute the October Surprise?
Well I can tell you it won't be an attack on Iran. We're all expecting that. So how about a new terrorist attack on the US, miraculously thwarted at the last moment--straight out of 24!

The Spirit of Joseph McCarthy Inhabits 'The Decider'
Read this excellent article over at FindLaw that talked about how Bush is becoming an increasingly dangerous President. "This Administration goes through scandals like a compulsive eater does candy bars; the wrapper is barely off one before we've moved on to another." This got me to thinking about who Bush reminds me of, and then it struck me: Bush is Joseph McCarthy! I mean, he bullies like McCarthy. He blusters and ignores the truth, like McCarthy. Though he attacks no one's patriotism personally (well except for John Kerry), he has armies of minions to do it for him. And...he's enjoyed his moment in the sun, like McCarthy. So hopefully, he'll fall--soon--like McCarthy.

And the Media are the refs - who know what is going on but act as if they are keeping things fair and balanced...
We had McCarthyism
Now we got Bushism
The main differnce?
McCarthy better fro words
Than the kowboy of krawford!
oops "for"...that kin of negates my damn point! Arrrrrgggghhhhh!
Actually, it's now the Washington Generals. :) Not much different. Strange, they actually had the Harlam Globetrotters on a radio show I listen to maybe a month ago.
Finally, Bush has no decency. Doesn't even begin to understand the definition of the term.
Good comparisons, Kvatch!

I hope we don't have an October surprise.
ZenYenta, I think the fundamental difference between McCarthy and Bush is that McCarthy had no hesitation about destroying people...in public...and with his own actions. Bush rarely does anything public, and often lets his underlings do the dirty work, but the results are still the same.

Lily, thanks. I too am hoping that there is no October Surprise, but I'll bet we don't get that lucky. Remember who's in power.

Echrai...still the Generals, huh? I thought that they'd been renamed. Oh well...
October Surprise miraculously thwarted
I expect the horseshoe/hand greanade law comes into play here. A near miss hardly provides a long enough ladder to reach the rim of the manure pit. If you get your surprise, my betting is that it will not thwarted, it will represent an 'actual' threat as opposed to a bumbled threat.
I think the McCarthy analogy is apt as well because, like Tailgunner Joe, Bush taps into very real visceral fears (terrorism and homosexuals as opposed to communists) and cynically exploits them from political gain.
I'm just fucking sick of it all.

Time for Revolution.
I was thinking they'd pull bin Laden out of a hat in 2004, but that's before I knew (any of us knew) about Diebold. I think this years the year, you know, play it safe and use the Diebold card when it really counts, in close elctions. Those one time only things like bin Laden, save those for the come from behinds...
That's right Fred, why screw around when technology can do it for you. No wonder Sec. of State McPherson (CA) just recertified the things--CA's about swing Republican in a big way I think. :-/

Cartledge, hope you're wrong, but anything is possible these days.

Hey Crank...does Bush have a nifty military nickname like McCarthy? "Flybaby Bush," for something like that?
I like your Harlem Globetrotters comparison. Funny.
Now that is a good sports analogy!
Fearmongering? Check. Demonization of opponents? Check. Undermining of civil liberties in the service of hysterical paranoia? Check. I think you're onto something here.
"This Administration goes through scandals like a compulsive eater does candy bars; the wrapper is barely off one before we've moved on to another."
Love this quote!
Emm...candy! I agree it's time for revolution.
That's a great analogy for the Dems. Except for one thing - the Washington Generals had balls. Basketballs, yes. But still...
"Hey Crank...does Bush have a nifty military nickname like McCarthy? "Flybaby Bush," for something like that?"

His Secret Service codename is "Trailblazer." You may now attempt to suppress the gag reflex.

You're not serious?! Hwwwaaaarrrkkkkk!
I am, in fact, serious. And don't say I didn't warn you. Reagan's was "Rawhide." Jimmy Carter's was "Dancer." Start to suspect there's maybe a LITTLE politics involved in this?
And if I can find it out in eighteen seconds using Google, then it ain't really a "code" name, now is it?
