Preparing for the Midterms, Democrats Resort To...Understatement?

From the Washington Post -
Democratic leaders in Congress are gathering the ammunition to win back the House and Senate this year. They have crafted an upbeat, patriotic (and also somewhat vapid) slogan: "America Can Do Better." And they are beginning to roll out the pieces of a low-key 2006 version of Newt Gingrich's "Contract With America..."
This is what I've been waiting for? The galvanizing, revolutionary slogan--the bold approach? This is all you've got?! Gott im Himmel!

Stupid, lazy, tepid, worthless, spineless cowards! The Republicans are doing permanent damage to checks and balances in our government. They're busy dismantling the Constitution. They're robbing you of the fruits of your labor. They're robbing your children of their future, and this is all you can come up with?

Damn right America can do better. We'd do better with a trained chimp occupying the White House, but that's saying exactly nothing!

I want to cry.

I keep repeating this..but..once more w/feeling..

The damn Democraps are waiting for Fitz to come out and nail some more Repubes..and hence do their dirty work for em..
Political parties as such
While flailing, still seem out of touch
Your slogans are trite
Too bad, I won’t bite
Pussyfootin’ they still do too much.
Kvatch et. al.

Did you see the interview with the Veep today? The Q & A is a great preview of how they are going to tear the dems a new on over this "plan." I have it at my location if you dare not tred near the whitehouse web location.

Blog on.
Do you know how to do videos? I can send you pics of Cheney, Scalia, and Bush giving the bird, get audio of Cheney saying "Go fuck yourself." (we can loop it) We can make our own "commercial" and share it with the net. It'd be lots of fun...
There is an uncanny resemblance to a trained chimp and who's in the white house now.
The Democrats can do better! What kind of non-campaign are they planning on running? The same non-campaign Kerry ran?
I prefer the ever-popular Brooklynese "Throw the bums out!"
There is a trained chimp in the White House! That is scary and now I want to cry...
"America can do better"!? Why not say "We love pie!" or "What the hell, vote for us."

I actually like Newt's "Had enough?"

As far as rolling out a strategy, I think they're doing the right thing by starting out low-key. Remember, the Repubs didn't roll out the "Contract on/for/with America" until Sept, 94. The Dems can't afford to peak too soon... better to start with a slow, constant and escalating drum-beat and reach a crescendo the week before the elections.

Maybe it's just wishful thinking, but I feel a rising tide of fatigue among Americans with the Emperor's invisible wardrobe... If the Dems play too bold a hand, they'll scare away moderate Repubs and other voters. The Dems need to clearly separate W. from those who voted for him: they need to discredit W. without disrespecting the citizens who once supported him... to allow them to save face and see the Dems as the true champions of traditional American Values.
Unfortunately, not enough Americans are interested in politics to make any difference. People who do most of political knitting are a few thousand dedicated individuals who manage your (our) lives.

I say wake up and smell the dasies.

Mags! A political limerick!

With Democrats lacking a theme,
Quite timid, or so it would seem
They'll lose the election
To base derilection
With noone to blame, once they're reamed.
That "Gott im Himmel" got me. And I say no shit.

The thing is, we are trying not to scare away those on the right in frilly panties who would just piss their pants if we said we are going to impeach the mother fuckerat the earliest opportunity. So if play Harvey Milquetoast is what it takes to regain power and get the wheels back on this wagon lets be cool an just keep our eye on the target.
throw the bums out, would be perfect

Rich, where I agree with you that the going for the jugular on impeachment is ill-advised (I personally think the censure resolution is a distraction), I still think we need something more. Dems need to grab 15 seats in the house, and that's not an easy thing to do, especially if you piss 30% of your base by acting like milksops. But what is the right balance? I don't know.
Yes.Yes.Yes.

I like Kat's idea...

Oh kvatch we are all SO screwed.
Kvetch Kvatch! kvetch!
Aethlos, welcome.

Actually you could just have said, "kvatch, Kvatch, kvatch". :-) (Technically, they "kvatch" and "kvetch" mean the same.)
