Iraq - There's Got To Be A Better Reason

We've heard all the justifications: We're spreading liberty and democracy in the Middle East; We're there to keep America safe; Saddam was a murderous dictator who would have attacked the United States...eventually, etc., etc... And as the lies mount, everyone gets more jaded and Bush's poll numbers drop like a one of Cheney's duck-hunting buddies.

But I think that we can do better for our President. What's the real reason we're still in Iraq? Oil, military bases, Halliburton's stock price? Blognonymous wants to know. (And I always do these things on Friday's anyway.)

Kvatch's opinion? Read on...

"Poppy told me that if I finished what he started, he'd buy me a new company. I hope it's Chevron!"

If only it were that simple..

The reason is to keep America in a perpetual state of War. It's good for Bush's war crony profiteers.

Next there is the every growing privitized militia such as BlackWater USA. We are moving away from a volunteer army to an army for hire.

The next reason is to keep Americans in a State of Fear so they are easier to govern.

The next reason is gain control of the oil.

But the real reason that I fear, that I hope is not true, is that the right wing is systematically trying to bring about Armagedon so that Christ will come back and rapture them up.

Did you see Bush hesitate to answer the question if he thought we were in the last days? He didn't say "no"...
Hey PoliS, true, true, true, and true...no question, but...uh...this is a Friday afternoon, and the idea is a little light-hearted ribbing of the administration. :-)

Come on, give us some good-natured snark! Try this post as a guide.
Any good Risk player knows you can't get to Kamchatka unless you start from the Middle East.
Exactly, Kvatch. We can speculate all we want but Bush has yet to tell anyone why war was necessary. It's time Bush was honest with America.

The Democratic Underground just sent Helen Thomas a room full of roses for asking Bush that question, and many other questions besides. She deserves it!
OK in the snark spirit versus the sad-assed truth spirit...

I think we're there because the Bush twins are Saddam's.

Oy.
Kvatch: Earl has posted a link for the latest lefty google bomb "Pussiliency". AKA a spineless Demopublican.

Here is the background, if you feel so inclined to get on board. The link is in the comments that needs to be put on pages for google.

Have a good weekend frog.

Ouch! How about...

I wanted some bases for our attack on Iran and suggested India--I like curry--but Rumy said it'd be too hard to subdue.
I agree with Kvatch. About six posts down in my weblog's "previous posts" links, I wrote a post called "Iraq: It's finally starting to make sense". In it, there is a graphic that shows where our Middle East military installments are located, and they seem to frame Iran very, very nicely. I also believe that as long as we on the left keep thinking and saying "it's all about the oil", it means we are preoccupied enough with that... that we aren't thinking as much about the more nefarious PNAC-type plans that involve taking over as much of the world as we can militarily while we are the "world's only superpower".

I love the game or Risk, and Lew, I think you are also on the right track.

When will the corporate media ask Bush if we're building permanent bases in Iraq? And why we're doing that, which we are, if we intend to leave?
Hi Leslie,

the Bushstappo will still deny we are building permament military installations there even though there are pentagon reports and newspaper articles saying we are doing exactly that.

The reason why no one talks about is because if they (the MSM or Bush, etc) talked about, some people may actually get upset at the idea of us occupying Iraq for the next 50 years...

We can't have that...Just like we can't show flag draped coffins and how the reason why Iraq is a mess is because the damn media keeps reporting all the bad news.
Don't know. Can't understand it.
If I were Bush, first and foremost on my mind would be, "How do I ditch that bitch, Laura?"
Obviously, he has his priorities scrambled a bit.
