Democrats Whine While Ignoring the Real Danger to the Judiciary

In Sunday's NY Times, Senate Democrats whine...a lot and then practically surrender in the battle for the courts:
Disheartened by the administration's success with the Supreme Court nomination of Judge Samuel A. Alito Jr., Democratic leaders say that President Bush is putting an enduring conservative ideological imprint on the nation's judiciary, and that they see little hope of holding off the tide without winning back control of the Senate or the White House.

In interviews, Democrats said the lesson of the Alito hearings was that this White House could put on the bench almost any qualified candidate, even one whom Democrats consider to be ideologically out of step with the country.
Is this the Democratic leadership? Witless crybabies who, apart from not having the cojones to use the full power of the Senate to turn away idealogues, can't even see the greater danger to the judiciary? An "...enduring conservative ideological imprint on the nation's judiciary," certainly sounds scary doesn't it? But I've got something scarier. How about a neutered judiciary, relegated to the role of an administration rubber stamp by executive bullying, congressional threats, and incessant media cries of judicial activism?

Would you prefer that you spineless wimps?!

The plain fact is that most judicial nominees move to the center after their appointments, liberals included. And frankly I'd rather have a judiciary, even conservative tending toward the center, than no judiciary at all. Because the latter is what Bush, the neo-cons, and the bug-eyed right have in mind, a goal they've been working toward since before Bush Sr. was in office.

well, we can only hope that they (the "witless crybabies") TIVO'd the Gore speech and learned a thing or two...right? hope that they got the Messege....
Damn us for wanting to keep the whole checks 'n balances alive. Man, we must hate America.
The ACLU has some nads..going after the NSA today..wish the Dems would rent a set of nads.
Yeah, the only hope is that when they put the fascists on the court and they actually have to THINK, they discover the joys of thought.
I have NO hope that Alito will move to the center..none, zilch, nada..he's over the top..his life philosophys show that.

When O'Connor was put on..i freaked..she was supposed to be so conservative and she ended up being more liberal than most of those pompous nitwits. I was depressed when she retired..she was the voice of reason the last decade on alot of the rulings. She was the swing vote too.

I agree, though that's exactly why I believe that Alito will move to the center. They all do. OK, all, with the exception of Thomas who wasn't qualified to sit on the court in the first place. They're lookin toward their legacy and most come to view the far left and far right as damaging to the country.
