Bloggers Anonymous - Get Clean and Stay Clean

Group, we have somebody new with us today. Maybe he'd like to introduce himself and say a little about what he's been going through?

Hi, um...my name is Kvatch, and I'm a "conserv-a-baitor".

HI Kvatch!

You see I started a blog about 8 months ago, and in the beginning I devoted myself to attacking the right. I'd put up links to particularly reactionary sites. I'd add comments that were designed to get a rise out of my opponents. I'd use irony and hyperbole to mock their positions, and what did it get me. Nothing.

Did these heartless right-wingers engage me on my own blog? No. Did I get any links, cross-posts, or even comments? NO! All that ever happened is that I got burned, right down to the ground, ever single day, and you know what? It made me into a jerk. I ignored my hobbies, I stopped going out. I argued with my wife. Blogging consumed me. But worst of all...[sniff]...I ignored the one community that actually cares: The left.

Sorry...[sniff]...excuse me a sec...[mmmrrrrppphhhhh]!

OK...I'm better now.

Like I said, I ignored you my fellow lefty bloggers. Well I say, no more. I'm going kick this. I haven't commented on a right-wing site in almost 48 hours. I'm going get clean and stay clean.

[applause]

And, for the second step in this program, I'm getting rid of the "enemies" list on my blog. So there!

(Did I mention that at least one of those "enemies" will drop below me on the ecosystem rankings just 'cause I remove my link? No? Uh...don't tell anyone. OK?)

One day at a time, Kvatch.

And when you feel yourself slipping, have a drink. Or two.

But seriously, I wouldn't drop the enemies list on your blogroll (well, maybe that one link) or stop engaging the enemy. You can't let 'em get too comfortable.
Your nuts..but I love ya anyway :P
You may be curious to know Kvatch, that every blogger goes through this experience. I wear my knocks with the reichwing like a red badge of courage - with honor for having pissed em off. I posted a long while back an interesting bit about the trouble with the reichwing arguments you may be curious to read. Have a gander.
there there Kvatch, oh, the pain, oh the angst of rejection....we know you tried to engage them...you even whipped out the hyperbole ( which deserves credit- considering it just too me five minutes to spell it)...Now I want you to know that the next time I have some evil trolls hanging out at the Enigma Cafe littering my nice little spot with their foul little lipless mouths and vacant thoughts instead of Deleting them I am going to invite you to come over and kick their little asses, complete with my blessings and a round for the House.... ( and believe me they will be back so be ready)
Yeah, it's tough getting attention in blogtopia since blogs began to proliferate. Atrios used to have a posting on how to get more attention that made a lot of sense in its time, but blogtopia has changed since then. What I found was the most effective way to get attention is to post in comments threads on big blogs (and do it a lot) and to get involved as a guest blogger on a better-known web log. Another thing is to be sure to periodically write absolutely killer blog articles with original research that covers a topic in some depth. Not that what you write already doesn't qualify, but it's a way to get noticed.

I have another, cheating sort of way, too. Every day go to technorati.com and post two or three brief postings on two or three of the top search items as listed at technorati. That will pick up some stray traffic for you and maybe some of them will come back. I bet if you did that last one for eight months you would more than double your daily traffic. Links are a whole 'nother matter.
Guys (and gals), you're all great. How about a big group hug?
hmmm, a group hug...you are a Conserva- baitor (I Love that term....)

now would that just be enabling you ? oh helll ....here you go..many hugs ((((((( )))))))))
I dont do group hugs..unless I have had a couple drinks..and its too early in the day for a vodka soda :P
I'm also beginning to see that it's a huge waste of time. If you think about it, people start political 'logs because they're unhappy with how things are going. Since conservatives control the government, the normal ones are all pretty happy..it's only the uber-right wing ones who need to 'log. They are generally no fun to argue with, just like it's no fun to argue with a militant vegan.

E4E, I'll keep my can-o-whup-ass at the ready. :-)

Marie, all joking aside, I actually find blogging in general and flogging myself on right-wing blogs to be very cathartic--Just the release one needs when you live in Sodom by the Sea where everybody thinks just like I do.
Aw...man, who's going to back me up when I have to dispense the truth to Vilmar and BobF over at the RRWH now?
I'll be back!
See Kvatch the key is to put an email link and then the toads just email directly, as they have been doing at Lose The Noose. They like Lew, it seems he gets under their skin. I posted a love letter to them, sort of) yesterday.
Kvatch I think on one occasion I referred to you as a 'she'. I don't know what the hell made me do this. I try to be gender neutral, but maybe something about 'kvatch' threw me. Anyway, we put you and Alicia in our Lose The Noose 'blogtripping', you guys have great blogs. Basically, I try to mention some blogs where I lurk- out of guilt maybe? I am working on leaving comments. Really.
The 'right' need to be baited soemtimes, to lure their heads out of their asses..carry on.
Good for you, and good luck.

I haven't been able to get any wingnuts to comment on my blog. Not that I've been trying that hard, but still. The one time anybody responded to my criticism, it was Julian Sanchez, who's actually a pretty honest libertarian--and whom I had unfairly lumped in with a bunch of less-than-honest conservatarians. And instead of having a nice nasty little fight, I had to apologize.
I have a theory. It's a rather crude one at that, but it goes something like this.

In general, Republican bloggers are pussies.

There, I said it.

They live in this happy little bubble world where everything is nice, shiney and red, white, and blue. They subsist under the watchful eye of Ken Mehlmen's daily talking points, Fox News , and various Newsmax clippings. Any attempt to draw them into the real world untimately fails.
It's kinda like that scene in the Matrix where the bald guy sells the rebellion out for some nice juicy digital steak. That's the world they want. They will never leave it. Nor will they dispute it.

Its as simple as that.

Drew, I sort of agree with you, but I think that the validation angle is huge. Take Vilmar at the Right Wing Howler-'bout 5 times the traffic of Blognonymous, though we both started in May of last year.

He puts up one outrageous post and immediately gets 20 or so responses of the "ditto" variety. Now that's validation. You and me? We've got to always remain creative just to keep our readership level.

It's a tough blogsphere, but god help me I do so love it.
Yeah, the validation helps seal the bubble.

I will say, however, I do enjoy Jonathan's Crush Liberalism blog... even though we clash on just about every issue, he does sometimes show signs of clarity.
I tell you...I think that Johnathan's bipolar. One moment he's all sweetness and light and the next he's burnin' you right down to your asbestos shorts.
am I the ONLY one that doesnt frequent rightwing blogs? I find them disgusting and I am married to a friggin Repube so why bother? You cant argue with them..see my "fluff" blog for ellerton's "convo w/a conservative".

I do have two types of blogs..the "fluff" blog gets roughly 35-50 hits of traffic daily..my political blog gets MAYBE a dozen folks a day..if that. I do however post political stuff when I deem it "critical" on the fluff blog. I notice that that my political blog holds readers longer..they stay three times longer than the fluff blog readers..plus I get folks from all over the globe on the political blog..and most of em come back at least a couple times a week. When I am bored I compare the stats between the two blogs...what can I say? I have no life :P

I think the righwingers are outrageous to draw you guys in..its like a child..ANY attention is good attention to a child..psych 101 class taught me that one..and geez..rightwingers are child-like..they have the iq of a 3 year old..or the maturity level of one..not sure which.
I find them disgusting and I am married to a friggin Repube so why bother?

Dusty, does the spouse kiss that potty mouth of yours? If the little frogette caught me talking 'bout her that way, she'd pull the suckers right off of my feet.

Seriously, though, right-wing blogs are like crack...a hard habit to break. That's why we need 12-step programs like Bloggers Anonymous.
Oh boy. Where to start, hmmm. I definitely need bloggers anonymous. I have managed to cause several right wingers to become agitated with me enough to attack me and it wasn't pretty. LOL. :-) So far I am banned on Blogs for Bush and can't leave a comment, and banned by another group too. I guess they got mad when I compared George Bush to a Nazi and then left proof of his family's connections to Hitler in the comments section. Or maybe it was when I said he is delusional because he thinks God tells him what to do. Something must have touched off the firestorm. :-) Besides attacking me on their blogs, someone left a nasty message on my tag board telling me I needed psychoanalysis. That it was me who was disturbed and not our "so called" President George "Miserable Failure" Bush. That I went to far. And that with that article I lost all credibility. Ha. It made me laugh. I would rather be actively trolling the right wing trying to wake up the sheep (even if I do anger them) than sitting around playing games on pogo.com twiddling my thumbs all day, like a good little sheep.
Static--can I call you "Static"?--Welcome. Don't think I've seen you around here.

Yeah I know what you mean. I even used to keep a list of the places I'd been banned. Blogs for Bush, banned me after my first comment, and it was really quite innocous. Go figure.
Very funny and it strikes home!
