Bloggers Anonymous - Get Clean and Stay Clean
Hi, um...my name is Kvatch, and I'm a "conserv-a-baitor".
You see I started a blog about 8 months ago, and in the beginning I devoted myself to attacking the right. I'd put up links to particularly reactionary sites. I'd add comments that were designed to get a rise out of my opponents. I'd use irony and hyperbole to mock their positions, and what did it get me. Nothing.
Did these heartless right-wingers engage me on my own blog? No. Did I get any links, cross-posts, or even comments? NO! All that ever happened is that I got burned, right down to the ground, ever single day, and you know what? It made me into a jerk. I ignored my hobbies, I stopped going out. I argued with my wife. Blogging consumed me. But worst of all...[sniff]...I ignored the one community that actually cares: The left.
Sorry...[sniff]...excuse me a sec...[mmmrrrrppphhhhh]!
OK...I'm better now.
Like I said, I ignored you my fellow lefty bloggers. Well I say, no more. I'm going kick this. I haven't commented on a right-wing site in almost 48 hours. I'm going get clean and stay clean.
And, for the second step in this program, I'm getting rid of the "enemies" list on my blog. So there!
(Did I mention that at least one of those "enemies" will drop below me on the ecosystem rankings just 'cause I remove my link? No? Uh...don't tell anyone. OK?)
And when you feel yourself slipping, have a drink. Or two.
But seriously, I wouldn't drop the enemies list on your blogroll (well, maybe that one link) or stop engaging the enemy. You can't let 'em get too comfortable.
I have another, cheating sort of way, too. Every day go to technorati.com and post two or three brief postings on two or three of the top search items as listed at technorati. That will pick up some stray traffic for you and maybe some of them will come back. I bet if you did that last one for eight months you would more than double your daily traffic. Links are a whole 'nother matter.
now would that just be enabling you ? oh helll ....here you go..many hugs ((((((( )))))))))
E4E, I'll keep my can-o-whup-ass at the ready. :-)
I'm also beginning to see that it's a huge waste of time. If you think about it, people start political 'logs because they're unhappy with how things are going.
Marie, all joking aside, I actually find blogging in general and flogging myself on right-wing blogs to be very cathartic--Just the release one needs when you live in Sodom by the Sea where everybody thinks just like I do.
Kvatch I think on one occasion I referred to you as a 'she'. I don't know what the hell made me do this. I try to be gender neutral, but maybe something about 'kvatch' threw me. Anyway, we put you and Alicia in our Lose The Noose 'blogtripping', you guys have great blogs. Basically, I try to mention some blogs where I lurk- out of guilt maybe? I am working on leaving comments. Really.
The 'right' need to be baited soemtimes, to lure their heads out of their asses..carry on.
I haven't been able to get any wingnuts to comment on my blog. Not that I've been trying that hard, but still. The one time anybody responded to my criticism, it was Julian Sanchez, who's actually a pretty honest libertarian--and whom I had unfairly lumped in with a bunch of less-than-honest conservatarians. And instead of having a nice nasty little fight, I had to apologize.
In general, Republican bloggers are pussies.
There, I said it.
They live in this happy little bubble world where everything is nice, shiney and red, white, and blue. They subsist under the watchful eye of Ken Mehlmen's daily talking points, Fox News , and various Newsmax clippings. Any attempt to draw them into the real world untimately fails.
It's kinda like that scene in the Matrix where the bald guy sells the rebellion out for some nice juicy digital steak. That's the world they want. They will never leave it. Nor will they dispute it.
Its as simple as that.
Drew, I sort of agree with you, but I think that the validation angle is huge. Take Vilmar at the Right Wing Howler-'bout 5 times the traffic of Blognonymous, though we both started in May of last year.
He puts up one outrageous post and immediately gets 20 or so responses of the "ditto" variety. Now that's validation. You and me? We've got to always remain creative just to keep our readership level.
It's a tough blogsphere, but god help me I do so love it.
I will say, however, I do enjoy Jonathan's Crush Liberalism blog... even though we clash on just about every issue, he does sometimes show signs of clarity.
I do have two types of blogs..the "fluff" blog gets roughly 35-50 hits of traffic daily..my political blog gets MAYBE a dozen folks a day..if that. I do however post political stuff when I deem it "critical" on the fluff blog. I notice that that my political blog holds readers longer..they stay three times longer than the fluff blog readers..plus I get folks from all over the globe on the political blog..and most of em come back at least a couple times a week. When I am bored I compare the stats between the two blogs...what can I say? I have no life :P
I think the righwingers are outrageous to draw you guys in..its like a child..ANY attention is good attention to a child..psych 101 class taught me that one..and geez..rightwingers are child-like..they have the iq of a 3 year old..or the maturity level of one..not sure which.
Dusty, does the spouse kiss that potty mouth of yours? If the little frogette caught me talking 'bout her that way, she'd pull the suckers right off of my feet.
Seriously, though, right-wing blogs are like crack...a hard habit to break. That's why we need 12-step programs like Bloggers Anonymous.
Yeah I know what you mean. I even used to keep a list of the places I'd been banned. Blogs for Bush, banned me after my first comment, and it was really quite innocous. Go figure.
